Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy procedures involve the use of a fiber optic camera, which consists of a camera probe with a magnifying lens on one end and a control unit connected to a light source and transmits the images to a television screen. The endoscope is inserted through the mouth during the procedures.
Individuals who should undergo examination through colonoscopy ?
- Individuals with a family history of colorectal cancer.
- Individuals aged 40-50 years old or above and in good health with no specific symptoms should undergo colonoscopy every 3-5 years.

Preparation before a colonoscopy.
- Three days before the examination, consume a soft, and easily digestible diet. Avoid fibrous foods, vegetables, fruits, and high-fiber foods. Drink plenty of water.
- Prepare the colon to avoid any fecal impaction. The patient should take prescribed laxatives and undergo an enema. Sodium chloride solution for intravenous can help prevent dehydration and fatigue.
- On the day of the examination, it is advisable to have a companion accompany the patient. It is not recommended to drive oneself to the appointment.
Preparation before a gastroscopy:
- One day before the examination, avoid consuming foods and beverages that can irritate the stomach such as spicy foods, alcohol, and coffee.
- Do not eat or drink anything for 6-8 hours before the examination.
- After the procedure, there may be slight discomfort and a small amount of blood-tinged mucus. If there are abnormal symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, swollen throat, chest pain, difficulty breathing, or high fever, it is advisable to promptly consult a physician.
